Wir schwarze Menschen und People of Color prägen und gestalten als Teil der Wiener Bevölkerung diese Stadt. Unsere Geschichte in Österreich reicht über Jahrhunderte zurück. Dennoch sind wir oft mit alltäglicher Diskriminierung bis hin zu offener Gewalt konfrontiert. Um dem entgegenzuwirken, organisieren wir die Black Movie Days im CAPE 10 (Alfred Adler Straße 1, 1100 Wien) und laden euch herzlich ein, gemeinsam mit uns zu diskutieren, zu feiern, zu essen und zu tanzen.
Die Black Movie Days — Favoriten des Volkshilfe Community Works und des CAPE 10 leisten vor diesem Hintergrund einen Beitrag zur Stärkung der BIPoC-Community (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) in Wien.

Der Dokumentarfilm thematisiert die oft erschütternde Realität von People of Color in Österreich. Es handelt sich um eine offene Darstellung der Perspektiven vieler Menschen hierzulande, die unterschiedliche Verbindungen zu Österreich haben; einige nennen es ihr Zuhause, andere haben es zu ihrer so genannten “Heimat” gemacht und wieder andere würden es nie so bezeichnen.

She’s gotta have it/Nolas Darling (USA 1986)
Dieser Film bedeutete nicht nur den Durchbruch von Spike Lee als Regisseur, sondern gilt auch als Auftakt des New Black Cinema. Nola Darling lebt als junge, selbstbestimmte Frau im Brooklyn der 1980er-Jahre. Sie führt gleichzeitig Beziehungen zu drei Männern unterschiedlichen Charakters. Während alle drei Nola als exklusive Partnerin gewinnen wollen, kämpft sie um ihre persönliche Freiheit. 1986 gedreht und trotzdem noch aktueller denn je.

Community Work
Der Unternehmer Jeffrey E. Izevbizua engagiert sich als Community Leader im Volkshilfe Community Work. Sein Supermarkt “Amen” in der Favoritner Pernerstorfergasse ist Treffpunkt der lokalen afrikanischen Community. Gemeinsam mit Nyherovwo Erhema hat er die Black Movie Days — Favoriten intiiert. Im Zuge dieser und weiterer Veranstaltungen werden die Lebensrealitäten, Bedürfnisse und Forderungen schwarzer Menschen in Wien und speziell in Favoriten thematisiert.

We black people and people of color shape and shape this city as part of the Viennese population. Our history in Austria goes back centuries. This film doesn’t only mark Spike Lee’s breakthrough as a director but is also considered the beginning of the New Black Cinema. Nola Darling lives as a young, self-determined woman in Brooklyn in the 1980s. She has relationships with three men of different characters at the same time. While all three want to win Nola as an exclusive partner, she fights for her freedom. Filmed in 1986 and is still more relevant than ever.

Entrepreneur Jeffrey E. Izevbizua is a community leader in Volkshilfe Community Work. His Exotic Supermarket “Amen” in Favoritner Pernerstorfergasse is a meeting place for the local African community. Together with Nyherovwo Ochuko Eriema, founder of the Niger Delta Initiative Austria (NDIA) initiated the Black Movie Days Favoriten.
During this and other events, the realities of life, needs, and demands of black people in Vienna and especially in Favoriten will be addressed.
